Pumpkin Picking in London

ย Pumpkin pickin’ season is upon us ya’ll! Growing up in the US, there wasn’t a year that went by that we didn’t go pumpkin picking in October. It signifies the start of Autumn and is such a fun activity to do on the weekend. When I was little, we used to go to this farm in Kansas with a huge field all full of pumpkins and pick out our own to bring home and carve for Halloween to put out on the door step. As we got older, I’d go to the pumpkin patch with friends when that snap of cold air hit, drink apple cider, enjoy apple cider donuts and pick out pumpkins to decorate our house with.

It’s one of my favourite American traditions that I truly miss being able to do living here in London, and I am sure if you are American living here, you miss it too! I’ve done some digging and have found some awesome pick-your-own pumpkin patches just outside of London that you can venture to come October that I wanted to share.

Crockford Bridge Farm, Surrey

Ciaran and I are making a visit to Crockford Bridge Farm as soon as the pumpkin patch opens on the 14th October! The farm is located in Weybridge, Surrey and in addition to the hundreds of pumpkin you can pick , they grow more than 20 different crops that you can bring home with you. They’ve got a great little farm shop too, where you can pick up locally sourced meat, the freshest produce and artisan foods.

Foxes Farm Produce, Essex

Foxes Farm Produce in Essex harvest thousands of pumpkins each year and their pumpkin patch officially opens on the 30th September! Grab your wellies and make a day of heading out to the field and picking your own pumpkins to bring home with you. They have so many pumpkins – that they have two patches in Essex – one in North Essex Colchester and the other in South Essex Basildon.

Secrett’s of Milford

This is one of the most family-friendly pumpkin patches I’ve come across! Secrett’s of Milford in Surrey is hosting its very own Pumpkin Week from the 24th – 29th October, where you and your family can head out, pick your own pumpkins on the farm and also enjoy face painting, tractor rides and biscuit decorating. Secrett’s has grown more than 30,000 pumpkins over the last few years, so it’s safe to say you’ll be spoiled for choice when it comes to picking your perfect pumpkin! Secrett’s also has its own farm shop, filled with food and produce produced right there on the farm. Also looks like they have a phenomenal cheese selection too, with more than 300 to choose from!

PYO Pumpkins, Kent

Happy Halloween

PYO Pumpkins at Beluncle Farm in Kent specialises in growing pumpkins and squashes! Every October, they open the farm up to the public and host their annual “Pick Your Own Pumpkin” event, which is taking place on Saturday, 14th October. These guys have got some enormous orange pumpkins but also have really beautiful white, pink, blue and green pumpkins of all different sizes – ideal for decorating your home or porch this fall!

I am so happy that the tradition of pumpkin picking has officially hit the UK! When I came over here a few years ago, I couldn’t find many farms that would let you go out and pick you own, so I resorted to picking up some decorative pumpkins from Sainsbury’s and Whole Foods (just wasn’t quite the same…) I’m excited to venture out to the pumpkin patch with Ciaran this year – it’ll be the first time he’s picked his own on a farm!

Have you been pumpkin picking before? If you have any other great farms in the London vicinity, please leave a comment below and let me know!

Happy pumpkin pickin’!
